If you have been glued to your television lately during award season as we have, you have noticed a sexy trend making its way through Hollywood: harnesses. Michael B. Jordan, Timothée Chalamet, and Chadwick Boseman were all seen strutting down the red carpet in some dazzling harnesses. Now, while harnesses have been seen as a clothing staple in the queer community, it hasn’t been a fashion piece that straight men have typically chosen. What does this mean?
Wider Acceptance of Self Expression & Empowerment
The harness, particularly ones of the leather variety have always been a symbol of sorts for the queer community. However, with more straight men sporting the style, it leads one to celebrate in the fact that there is perhaps an increase in societal acceptance of queer fashion. Artistic director of Louis Vuitton, Virgil Abloh is the mastermind behind the recent celebrity designed harness invasion. He describes the design as “empowering” for men. Whatever his reasons, we are incredibly grateful and can’t wait to see more attractive men in Hollywood slipping on a harness.
